The Elektra Microcasa Semiautomatica is a beautifully crafted espresso machine that requires careful handling during its initial setup. Follow these steps to ensure that your machine operates correctly and avoids any potential damage. Please adhere to these guidelines closely, as improper setup could void your warranty or cause harm to the machine and yourself.

1. Check for Moisture Before Starting

If you notice any moisture inside the box or on the unit after unboxing, allow the machine to air dry for 24 hours before proceeding. Starting the machine with any moisture present could cause serious personal injury or damage to the machine, for which neither the manufacturer, importer, dealer, nor reseller will be responsible.

2. Filling the Water Reservoir

Begin by inspecting the water tank for any particles or debris. Once it’s clean:

  • Fill the water reservoir on top of the machine to 80% full. This ensures that there's enough water for proper operation during the initial startup.

3. Ensure the Coffee Switch is Off

Before powering on the machine, make sure that the coffee switch located on the right side of the machine is not depressed (it should be in the "out" position).

4. Turn the Power Off

Ensure the power switch is in the OFF position (usually marked with a “0”).

5. Plug the Machine Into a GFI Outlet

For safety purposes, plug the machine into a GFI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlet. This type of outlet will help protect you in case of electrical issues.

6. Powering On the Machine

After plugging in:

  • Switch the power button to the “I” position to turn the unit on.
  • Immediately press and hold the boiler switch. You should hear a “burring” noise from the pump. This sound indicates the pump is working correctly.

7. Troubleshooting the Pump Sound

  • If you do not hear any sound, immediately power off the machine. This could indicate that a wire has come loose from the pump during shipping. Continuing to operate the machine could damage the heating element.

  • If you hear a light hum, this could mean that a particle is blocking the pump or refill valve. Power off the unit immediately to prevent damage.

8. Filling the Boiler

While continuing to hold the boiler refill switch, keep an eye on the sight glass on the left side of the machine. Hold the switch until the water reaches 75% of the sight glass level.

Important Note: Always maintain a minimum of 25% water in the sight glass to avoid damaging the heating element. If the heating element is exposed to air, it will melt, potentially causing the GFI outlet or circuit breaker to trip. This type of damage is not covered under warranty.

9. Unit Not Heating?

If the unit does not heat properly after following these steps, locate the reset button on the bottom of the machine and press it.
