Description

The latest addition from La Pavoni it is not only beautiful but built to last. The entire body is made of 18/8 stainless steel then polished to a gloss finish. This new unit is semi-automatic; you manually start and stop the flow of coffee via a button. It also features a built-in coffee grinder allowing you to grind your coffee fresh before brewing.

Built in Italy, the home of espresso coffee, this machine features stainless steel filter baskets, a built-in conical grinder and coffee press. The latest in coffee dispensing technology allow for the return of unused water from the pump back into the water reservoir, assuring the user of fresh tasting coffee every time. I'm very happy with my purchase

I agonized over which espresso machine to purchase for several weeks. I had decided on the price range (approximately $1,000), but the more I researched the different possibilities, the more indecisive I became. Finally I said to myself WTF, I'm gonna get the La Pavoni.

Like with any espresso machine, there has been a learning curve. But after two weeks, I am making consistently excellent-tasting espresso. I have been using a scale & timer to make certain that my dosing & output are within the desired range ... but I think that soon I'll be abandoning that practice since I seem to be able to make great espresso without that "safety net."

The Domus Bar is fairly compact (but solid) and attractive so it does not take up a huge amount of counter space nor is it an eyesore.

I'm still working to master the frother. I've been making passable froth, but I'm sure that my frothing skills will improve over time. The machine comes with a froth assister--a small tube which goes over the froth nozzle--which at least one commentator has suggested NOT using. I actually seem to get better results when using the assist tube.

One slight anomaly is that the portafilter basket which is said to be 57 mm actually seems to be slightly larger. The 57 mm tamper which Comiso was nice enough to include with my purchase is actually slightly too small. I am awaiting the arrival of a 57.35 mm tamper (also odd is the fact that the portafilter & basket are made by Lelit).

All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase. Perhaps in a couple of months, I'll post a follow-up to this review.
